Maltese Chihuahua Mix Puppy - Cozette
by Christine Jennings
(New York, NY)
Cozi at two months
It all started with the name. I told the rather gangster-style gentleman I'd been seeing that I wanted a puppy. His cousin's dog happened to be having puppies, and he told me they were a cross between a Maltese and a Chihuahua.
No stranger to hybrids - I owned a 'Bug" - A Boston/Pug mix who now resides with my brother - I immediately began to research the Malchi breed. I'd never owned a small dog before, and was wary of getting a yipper, but I live in New York City, and had to sadly give up my last dog for lack of space.
When the two sisters were born, said ex-boyfriend promised me first pick. Most of the photos I'd seen of the puppies online had looked more like the Maltese breed, with very little resemblance to the Chihuahua. He showed me a picture of the first puppy, all white, fluffy and cute, but just not for me. Like small dogs, I have a big personality and the famed New York temper, so I needed a dog that represented me.
When he got picture of the second baby, I nearly gasped and knew I had to have her. She looked like a Chihuahua with short blonde hair (like mine) and the sweetest floppy ears. The Maltese breed was evident in the face, but everyone who saw the picture thought she was a Jack Russell puppy, or a full Chi. I honestly thought she was the cutest dog I'd ever seen, and decided to name her Cozette. Everyone assumed I'd named her after the character of Cozette from the play "Les Miserables," but I had actually named her after Adrianna's dog from "The Sopranos." If anyone watched the famous HBO series, they'd know
that "Cozette" was gifted to Adrianna by her gangster boyfriend, Christopher. Neither she nor poor Cozette made it out of the series alive, so in honor of one of my favorite shows ever, "Cozette" it was.
Cozi arrived at three months, all playful and sweet, afraid to go up or down the short flight of steps to my apartment. It did not take long for the little dog to find her personality, along with a piercing bark which is most definitely not a 'yip.'
I have found her to be a joy, fairly easily crate-trained and not like a lot of the small dogs I've seen in my neighborhood that are insanely high-strung. This is not to say she doesn't have her moments. She is the star of the small dog run and generally good with other dogs, but on the street, she lunges and barks at any dog that passes by. Her tail is wagging, and it's not a menacing lunge, but I am still trying to break her of the habit. That, and barking at firetrucks and parked bikes.
Cozi will be a year old the day after Christmas, and I am so blessed to have her in my life. My eight-pound baby with the funny strut bosses around my roommate's Puggle like it's her job. They are the best of friends, probably because he always lets her win.
I knew my relationship with her would last longer than mine and my ex-boyfriend's. He still has visiting rights, and her mother is pregnant again so I'm thinking of giving her a sibling. I still refer to her as 'the baby,' though, so maybe I need to wait a bit longer before she has to share the spotlight. I don't think she'd like that.

Maltese Chihuahua Mix Puppy - Charley

Charely being lazy
This is Charley, he is a Maltese Chihuahua mix puppy. He is so adorable and very cute. I love him so much. He is so calm, loves to be brushed and sleep right next to you. He hardly barks and listens very well.
I got him from a breeder that had all the papers for him. He is considered a toy breed. His dad is a toy Chihuahua and mother is pure Maltese. Both weigh at 5 lbs. So he should only be no bigger then 5lbs. He is now 5 month old. He weighs at 3.30lb according to his Vet at Banfields.
Charley is back and on his legs are cream color and his face has cream color mask and under his chin. He is very soft and smooth. He has a little bit of Chihuahua in him but more of Maltese.
He is not playful like a little Chihuahua should be. He knows how to sit and come here. He seems to be easily trained. I already have him potty trained and when I clap he gives me high five. LOL.. Here is one of his thousand pictures.

He has long hair and short hair. Lots of personality. He dosen't require much exercise and he sleeps through the night, and part of the day when he isn't playing.
Overall, the best dog I have ever owned. I highly recommend a Malchi to anyone looking for a good dog :]

Maltese Chihuahua Mix Puppy - Lucy
by Jessica
(Miami, Florida)
Lucy is our 4 month old Maltese Chihuahua mix puppy and was bred with a pure bred Maltese mama (all white) and a purebred Chihuahua papa (marbled coat). She is about 7 pounds and has cute floppy ears and a long tail!
She is a little shy as on right now, but once you get her to come by you she loves a good belly rub. She also seems to shake when she's fearful which I think might be the Chihuahua coming out in her. She doesn't bark at all and loves to lick you like crazy once she warms up to you. She loves fetch and staring at her reflection in the sliding glass door. We haven't had any problems with chewing, she just sticks to her toys.
We really love our little Lucy and we look forward to teaching her all kinds of tricks.

Maltese Chihuahua Mix Puppy - Tink
by Jaye
(Adelaide, South Australia)
Sneaky lil Tink (aka Tinky Binky or Tinkle Winkle)
Tink is our tiny, fearless, independent and hilarious Maltese Chihuahua mix puppy.
We got Tink when she was 12.5 weeks old. Her father was a dark chocolate brown pedigree Chihuahua and her mother was a Maltese which the owners said may or may not have had some Silky Terrier and/or Pomeranian in her lineage.
She was the smallest of the litter and last born and the owners had intended to keep her for their daughter. As it turned out, their daughter did not have enough time to look after her due to her work and other commitments.
At 12.5 weeks Tink was approx 3 inches/7.5cm from shoulder to rump. In the car home she was timid and shaky but within an hour of having her home she had put our 4 year old Maltese Jack Russell cross in his place!
She is now 15 weeks old and has grown quite a bit. She rarely barks (only when playing with our other dog Toby). She has a bed in our bedroom but often finds other places to sleep. She loves napping in front of the fire and on piles of laundry.
She is very smart and learned to use the doggie door by herself within 2 days. Our little Maltese Chihuahua loves chewing anything she can get and stealing socks and underwear.
She is about 6 inches/15cm from shoulder to rump now. Her coat is quite thick now and we are waiting to see just what it will turn out like!
