Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - Max
by JMo
(Menifee CA)
Max our Maltese cross Shih Tzu is the "Curious George" of puppies! He's always getting into trouble. He's up at the crack of dawn to announce to the world that it's time to go to the bathroom. Thanks to him I get to see the stars as they fade away to the dawn's early light. (Yawn!) If he sleeps in till 6, his private time is interrupted by a battle with the sprinklers.
His battles are quickly won as the water cannons of the grassland retreat within minutes of his battle. As he heads up to the master's chambers (our bedroom) he scans the room for his favorite toy, a stuffed dinosaur T-Rex twice his size. He'll grab the powerful dragon beast by its neck and shakes it to n fro until it submits unto Maximus Prime the Dragon slayer. This toy will join him this morning. He grabs it by a limb and begins the trek up the stairs. Assistance is seldom required. He's figured out that if he carries it up by the tail and runs to the top without stopping, his mighty mini strength will see him to the top of the stairs victorious!
A brief nap is taken by me and our Maltese Shih Tzu cross before we start the day. The bathroom door must be shut however or I will find the toilet paper streamed throughout the bedroom with Max at the bottom trying to destroy the evidence! Breakfast anyone? Max will have the Charmin to go!
Tan Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - Truffles
by Mackenzie
(Lou, KY USA)
9 Months old. 9.11 lbs.
Truffles is a 9 month old 9lb 11oz. Maltese Cross Shih Tzu bundle of joy! She is mostly white with patches of light tan on both ears and on her back. She has a very outgoing personality and loves to meet new people and animals and lick them to death! She loves to play with anything she can find (which sometimes includes shredding paper/toilet paper which is bad) but she loves tennis balls and her little stuffed pig.
She doesn't bark much at all unless she hears sirens or gets scared by something. In fact she wouldn't tell us when she had to go outside to potty so we had to teach her to ring a bell by the door. Once she learned to do that she was easy to potty train. However it took her about 4 months to get the hang of the whole potty outside thing. (don't use puppy pads!!) She is very stubborn about "come" if she wants to go somewhere or chase something and she is so fast I usually have to chase her down. My Maltese Shih Tzu cross is very intelligent and loves to learn and observe. She is such a people lover and loves to cuddle anytime or sleep near me at night.
She had tear stains/ear infections when she was younger but I learned how to better prevent them from my vet and she hasn't had a problem since. Her fur is so soft and she doesn't shed at all I do have to brush her everyday and give her a bath pretty often, but the trade of a soft non shedding coat is well worth it.
Overall she is wonderful! I am going to have Malshi my whole life I love the breed!
Fluffy - Maltese Cross Shih Tzu
by Linda
(Easton Maine)
Our Maltese cross Shih Tzu is the best dog that we have ever had. I had dogs all my life, and none can come close to our Malshi. Her name is Fluffy (that is just part of one of her names). Fluffy will be two years old in five months, Dec. 14,2008.
We got her at 8 weeks old, and she trained herself to do her job. In other words, she made two mistakes on the floor when we brought her home, she was just 8 weeks old! We do have a doggie door and our other dog is a German Shepherd who is 8 years old. Little fluffy started going out doors right away and doing her job. She is so smart.
As for her looks. She looks like a Maltese, but has the nose of a Shih Tzu. Everyone thinks she is a Maltese, you cannot tell the difference. She is all white with long hair. Her face looks like a puppy. She has a small rounded skull, and a very sweet and innocent looking face, with black eyes, and she has a beard and mustache, it looks like one anyway. Her size is small, but she is a little over weight, she had been eating her food as well as Sammy's. She weighs 8 pounds.
She has the best personality! She loves everyone she meets. Children of all ages play with her and she just loves it. There is never a worry about her being with any children of any age, she just loves them all, and wants to just play and kiss them. Wherever we go, strangers come up to her and she just kisses them. She makes friends wherever we go, and everyone loves her.
Fluffy has plenty of character lots energy, and so lively, playful, and entertaining with plenty of love and loyalty to give, she is very gentle and affectionate. She loves to sit on our lap, and be near us. She is so very intelligent!
She just started going to classes to learn how to walk at my side and all kinds of things, and the trainer thought that Fluffy had classes before, because she was so smart and did so well in the first class as well as the next class. We go for her third class next week. We cannot believe how smart she is, and how she took to her training. Amazing!
I do brush her every morning and at night before she goes to bed. But I find its easy, we brush our hair. No big deal, she also loves to have me brush her. She also loves her bath. but she hates water in her eyes. I started bathing her as soon as we got her, and she is used to it, its just part of her life, and its no big deal to her. Just give her all kinds of praises. Boy she she eat that up! She loves to be praised.
I would never have another kind of dog, just a Maltese cross Shih Tzu, they are the best of both dogs. And to tell you the truth, I never wanted a small dog! I hated them because all they do is bark and snap at people! Never would I ever get one, ..... then we saw this sweet pup 8 weeks old and we fell in love with her. She used to bark at other dogs, but no more. Man is she smart! She has NEVER SNAP at anyone, not ever. She is a lover, that is for sure.
I would have a hundred of Malshi's, that's how much I love them. Here is a picture of little fluffy, taken last year. Her hair is short in this picture. There is a lot more I could say, but I may run out of room. God bless.
Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - Luca
by Andrew & Cheryl
(Tustin, CA)
My Maltese cross Shih Tzu Luca is mostly black with a white stripe from his chin to his tummy with random single white hairs throughout and a white tip on his tail.
In this picture Luca is 13 months old and weighs 12 pounds. He's catching his breath after some serious play time with his favorite dog friend, Chanel.
He loves to play fetch and enjoys walks, the beach and going for rides in the car. He likes being the center of attention. He makes sure to catch everybody's attention and wins people over with his personality and blatant flirting. He is very generous with his kisses, too.
Luca is a wonderful dog and we are lucky to have him.

Wilbur the Furry Bear
My Maltese cross Shih Tzu is the cutest puppy in the world, best temperament, sweet loving, cuddly, playful, smart, friendly, always in a superb mood.
His hair is fine and almost repels dirt. He is the most perfect pet I have ever seen.
We have even been stalked on a number of occasions by people who were so enchanted by his looks and charming personality.
Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - Teddy
by Terri
(Michigan)
Maltese Cross Shih Tzu watching for squirels
Teddy is 3/4 Maltese, 1/4 Shih Tzu, he's 8 years old, about 14 lbs. His coloring is white to cream, and his fur tends to be a little curly.
Our Maltese cross Shih Tzu is happy, goofy, stubborn, smart. I believe he views our grandkids as his equals, and he needs to be "reminded" he's a dog. He's affectionate and loves company!
Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - Moppy
by Elisha
(Qld Australia )
Moppy is a gorgeous black and white Maltese cross Shih Tzu with a beautiful temperament. He was initially collected from the pound by he previous owners, and had been badly abused. So when I got him at three years old he was still very timid and not trusting.
Since I have had him, however, he has become the most fun-loving, relaxed and beautiful dog - I feel like we were meant to be together. Moppy helped me get through a severe bout of depression and has been the best companion for me. He lives in my unit with me and is such a great companion as I am often home alone.
Moppy always lets me know when he needs to go to the toilet and has never done anything in the house. He is quiet and very affectionate, and follows me everywhere. He even sits on the bath mat when I have a shower! Moppy is my 'baby' and so he's very spoiled. My partner often gets jealous of the attention he gets!
What I love most is that he always knows how I'm feeling and if I'm upset he will jump on my lap and lick my face to try to make me feel better. I wouldn't be without him and would recommend this breed to anyone who wants a small dog for indoors.
Bentley
by Maltese Shitzu Puppies - Megan
(Memphis, TN)
Bentley is one of the the best little Maltese Shitzu puppies ever. He is so incredibly playful and is always excited. He has the cutest little pounce and what I call his "cat paw." My Maltese Shitzu swats at all his toys. Bentley loves to nap on his back with his little paws up in the air.
He's the best little puppy I have ever had! How can you not love his little face? I know I do!
Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - Jake
by Connie
(Highlands Tx)
We found our Maltese cross Shih Tzu Jake or he found us, don't really know but Jakers was one of the best Christmas presents I ever had AND he is the Best dog I ever had - we love him more every day and he's been with us for almost a year. The only dog that ever came close to being as great as Jake was our Picapoo, Zach. Jakester is 12 lbs and about 2 y.o. He was lost on a busy street when rescued and brought to us when his original owners couldn't be found. We thought he looked like Benji with his long hair who every body knows is adorable, but when he got a puppy cut to remove all the mats, well, he was even cuter!
Jake loves to be petted & loved, loves to play fetch, and loves to sleep with his mommy or play/fight with his daddy. He is very smart, quick to please, quiet except when someone approaches our yard or door(he's a great doorbell! but doesn't bark really, other than that). He is up for whatever we are up for no matter if it is snoozing, doing window-time (his beloved car ride!), or just hangin' out. BUT, he will try to get us to play fetch with him ANY chance he gets, and he could do fetch day or night!!!
He is patient with bath-time, nail-clipping, haircut, if picking out a few fleas- you name it; praise him, love him, sing to him, and he is all yours! The only bad habits he has is getting into our bathroom trash and hiding under the bed when upset(fussed at) until he gets good and ready to come out. But he is good with all animals and people and tries to be so-o-o good for his mommy & daddy it's hard to fault him at all. He doesn't mind playing 2nd fiddle to others dogs but he does Not like his daddy to get more kisses from his Mommy than he does. We like to tease him just to watch him wiggle his way between us, peppering us with kisses. Jake is much loved & now we are hoping to one day have grandpups!!!

Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - Salty
by Maria
(New York)
Our Maltese cross Shih Tzu Salty is amazing. He is 7 months old. He has a wonderful temperament. He loves everyone. My husband and I are out of minds in love with him. My mom lives in the apartment below us and she can't stop spending time with Salty.
Our Maltese x Shih Tzu was so easy to train. As long as we take him out every 6-8 hours he does his business outside. He is also very protective of our home. If he hears a strange noise he begins to growl and bark but not excessively just enough to alert us.
I would recommend a Malshi to anyone, You will fall in love.
Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - Oliver
by Cristen
(Texas)
Ollie
We're celebrating one year with our Maltese cross Shih Tzu or Malt-tzu Ollie. He was rescued at 11 months from a breeder who was selling dogs on the side of the road. He had fleas and tapeworms. But he recovered and has quickly become best friends with our 4 year old Maltese Charlie.
Ollie is almost 2 years old and healthy and sweet. He's a bit stubborn on the house training front but I attribute that to the first 11 months being crate trained and no training from the breeder.
We adore him and just think he's the cutest thing ever. Our Maltese cross Shih Tzu weighs about 7 lbs, which is 1/2 of what my Maltese weighs. He is so laid back and loves to be cuddled.

Sadie in her Pink Shirt
Sadie is a little love. We tell her she is the cutest puppy ever. She's 6 months old, loves everyone, especially children and follows me everywhere, and I mean everywhere.
She is getting very good at following commands except get's distracted easily, especially outside when others are around and there are noises such as passing cars, kids on bicycles, etc. But she is a very good puppy and loves to play take it and drop it with any of the squeaky toys she has!!
I would get another Malshi in a second.
Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - Ginger
by Sally
(Huntington Beach, California)
This is an update on my little Maltese cross Shih Tzu girl. Last posted a photo of Ginger at 4 months. She is now 9 months and is the best buddy ever. I have been taking her out in the car with me since very young and she LOVES IT! Delighted to sit quietly in her car seat in anticipation of the adventure ahead. Really enjoys visiting with her doggie friends at the local outdoor coffee house.
Ginger continues to be even tempered and always happy and social to all ages of people and dogs. Our desire to do a therapy dog team is making progress as we are in training and Ginger is responding well. My Maltese cross Shih Tzu is such a bundle of fluffy love for me and others to play with and cuddle. Best puppy ever!!!

Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - SuLLa
by Leslie
(Sacramento)
Sulla with his favorite Ball
Our Maltese cross Shih Tzu Sulla is fabulous, he is our Child. He does everything we do, and he goes everywhere we go. We could not imagine how our life would be without him.
My husband got him as a present because we had to be apart for about 8 months and he wanted to give me a puppy to make up for that. He was so adorable, and we could tell by the first time we saw him that he was gonna be a smart boy.
It was a challenge to potty train our Maltese Shih Tzu because he was so stubborn, he would think that the puppy pad was to lay on after he peed. He finally learned his lesson when we took him and got him fixed. He peed at the right place right after we got home, and never had an accident. I think he was afraid that if he did not pee in the right place, we would take him again to the vet. :( It was such a bad experience for him, ever since that, he obeyed to everything we say.
Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - Mia
by Lourdes
(North Port, FL)
My Maltese cross Shih Tzu Mia is very loyal to me, she is very patient, smart, and playful. She is also very loyal to me and she gets along with every body specially my kids. She was not that hard to train and she is very loving and caring.
I would recommend any body to get a Malshi. I have had her since she was 2 months old and she's almost a year now, I will never regret buying her.
Maltese Cross Shih Tzu - Cookie
by Pamela Garcia
(Travis AFB, CA)
What can I say about my Maltese cross Shih Tzu Cookie, wow she has brought so much happiness to both my husband and I. She is super playful, alert, sweet, loving and funny. I love that she always has a smile on her sweet face. My Cookie understands English and some Spanish, I haven't had any trouble house breaking her and she enjoys showers and many walks.
My Maltese x Shitzu does shed but it's not too bad, my husband and I have allergies and are no where near close to having allergies with this loving, beautiful dog.
She was a gift from my mother and goodness I wouldn't think twice about giving her to anyone. She truly is my best friend.
A Maltese cross Shih Tzu is a wonderful choice even with kids because mine is very good with kids even those that like to actually play with the dog in the worse way ;). If your looking for a dog get this type you won't regret it.
