Maltese Memorial for Lacee

Lacee came into our lives 14 and a half years ago when we already had a small collie. It wasn’t my intention of getting another dog, but my daughter wanted a Maltese and at 12 years old had saved her babysitting money for one.
I never expected, nor do I think my family did, to have such a bond with her. We knew we would love her but Lacee was different, she was like a child to me and another sibling to my kids. You always know the day will come when it’s time to say goodbye, but your never ready.
Lacee seemed healthy until 2 weeks before she passed away from heart disease. My husband, our now 26 year old daughter and our 20 year old son whom we had to FaceTime to be there all were present when our sweet Lacee left us. Inconsolable is what we were and the world doesn’t seem right without her here. We made an effort to find another dog two weeks after she passed but our hearts just weren’t there yet. Leaving the house where we went to look at puppies we caught a glimpse of a street sign called Lacee. She knew she was loved and we were too. We will never forget her.
