Little Milla at 13 weeks

My Maltese x Shih Tzu is the most awesome little gal I've ever had... I rescued her at 13 weeks. I was never a "small dog' person, having Mastiffs and Setters through out my life. But this dog is unbelievable.

She comes to my office with me everyday and loves everyone. she loves all other dogs too. Milla is playful, freakishly cute and more then clever. She rarely barks but is a good little watch dog at home. She is energetic and very playful. Everyone that meets her threatens to steal her because of her sweet personality and charm.

I can't believe how much I love this dog!! I encourage people to go with a Maltese cross Shih Tzu but I encourage doggie rescue more... we lucked on our little gal! I guess we would be lucky with any dog.

Maltese x Shih Tzu - Joboo

Joboo is a just over 1 year old Maltese x Shih Tzu! We adopted him from a rescue group in Ohio. Dad was a Maltese, mom a Shih Tzu. He is so cute, loving, and thinks he's the boss of our yellow lab named Stella. They are so cute chasing each other in our yard!

He sleeps in our bed every night and loves our 2 daughters (8 & 10). He is so eager to please and loves finding all kinds of adventure in our yard.

He is truly my cutie dog, and he always shows affection and obedience to all 4 of us. You need to experience a Maltese cross Shih Tzu to understand how wonderful they are!

Maltese x Shih Tzu - Jack

Jack is my 1 year old Maltese x Shih Tzu. We got him from a breeder at 14 weeks old and he was the cutest thing I had ever seen. He was white with black and gray but the more we had him clipped the whiter he became to only be left with black on end of ears and tail. He loves going for long walks and quite an independent dog, certainly not a lap dog although he does love his tummy rubs.

We recently got a Maltese cross Bichon called Jasper from same breeder and Jack accepted my Maltese Shih Tzu superbly and is showing Jasper the walks of life, they love to play fight and sleep snuggled up.

I wouldn't change either of my dogs for the world!

Maltese x Shih Tzu - Maya

Maya is an almost 5 month old Maltese x Shih Tzu and is such a sweetie. She is very mischievous. She tips over every waste basket to see what she can steal from it. She loves tissues and toilet paper. It is a regular thing to be following trails of toilet tissue and of course any sock that might fall to the floor.

We got our Maltese x Shih Tzu puppy when she was just 6 weeks old and fell in love with her instantly. She loves to cuddle and have her belly rubbed. It is such a pleasure to go home from work everyday and have her greet us with tail wagging and hips twisting.

She is just too cute and she is our baby. She loves everybody she meets, especially children. She is an awesome pet and we love her.

My Maltese x Shih Tzu is an adorable bundle of fluff and fun. She loves wrestling her best buddy- our kitten Mija- then curling up beside her to sleep. She loves to run round and round in circles just for the fun of it.

She is spunky and spirited but also very loving and affectionate. She loves cuddles and tummy rubs and licking mummy's face! My Maltese x Shih Tzu is a complete blessing :)

Maltese x Shih Tzu - Tasha

Tasha the Maltese x Shih Tzu is a joy! She is very habitual. You can almost time her for her bathroom breaks. Loves to play and get into trouble. She is exremely affectionate. Loves other animals and the very fond of a child's voice, makes her want to run to them.

She absolutley adores children. I do not have any but I do have a grandchild and she just wants to play with her constantly. She loves to play fetch and is doing very well. I throw and she runs extemely fast gets it and comes right back and wants more more more!

This is my first experience with a small dog and am glad I got one. My Maltese x Shih Tzu does not bark much at all until she spots something unfamiliar. Its very funny really. The vacuum cleaner is her only enemy and she really barks at that! Even that however is comical. I absolutley love her to death.

Maltese x Shih Tzu - Frasier

Frasier is quite playful, he is always wanting to play fetch or tug. My Maltese x Shih Tzu is sweet, gentle and makes friends quickly with other animals and people!

He does require a lot of care and attention but is well worth the time! It took him about a year to be potty trained, he was already pee pad trained when I got him -he learned as a fresh pup from his parents- then after coaxing him outside a few dozen times my Maltese cross Shih Tzu decided he wanted to stop using the pee pad and graduate to the backyard (he was scared at first to go outside by himself especially at night!)

I could write all day about what a wonderful, funny, sweet personality he has!

Maltese x Shih Tzu - Ralph

My Malshi, or Maltese x Shih Tzu, Ralph is a really pretty dog and weighs 8.5 lbs. When he was 12 weeks he figured all he needed to do was put poo poo in the middle of the puppy pad and he could get out of the bathroom.

He found poo poo from the kitty and put it smack dab in the middle of the puppy pad and waggled his tail. Got out and poo pooed in front of the refrigerator. He completely fooled both my husband and my self.

Ralph is very smart, in other words, and he measures up everything and notices everything. He is very very fast and loves to chase squirrels and tear up papers. He loves children and other dogs. Ralph is extremely well socialized.

When I got him at 8 weeks I said what is your name little puppy? He said "Ralph."

Getting out of the car has been dangerous and Ralph will dart out in traffic.

Angel eyes takes the tear stains away from his eyes.

Maltese x Shih Tzu - Nikko

We got our Maltese x Shih Tzu Nikko from a designer dog breeder (reputable) in Arkansas. He is 6 months old now, and the light of my husband's life. He never liked dogs too much, but Nikko is so cool!

He does tricks-my husband taught him to roll over, high five, shake, dance, he's a very smart dog. very playful-yet very cuddly.

This summer we're mating him with a Lhasa-Mal that lives in our little town in Washington state. Taffy and Nikko should have gorgeous pups. They are both about 8 lbs.

Maltese x Shih Tzu - Georgie

I was excited when my next door neighbor told me that she was getting a Maltese x Shih Tzu puppy for her two young sons, and I told her that I would help her if she needed me. This was her very first dog. When I met Georgie, I was impressed with how adorable she was and also how smart she seemed! My neighbor soon found that having a dog was not for her, and she offered to let me buy Georgie which I did.

Georgie stole all of our hearts from the first time we met her! So tiny and so smart and so much fun too. She will be five years old in a couple of months and continues to be a very good girl. The neatest thing about our Maltese x Shih Tzu is that she looks different after each haircut. At various times she looks like a mini sheepdog or a terrier or a black and white Cocker Spaniel or, at the moment, sort of a Holstein Schnauzer?

Something we didn't expect is her love of swimming! She leaps into our swimming pool and does figure eights for a while and then floats around on her floaty and suns herself. She has a very warm and loving personality and is great with my little grandson as you can see in her picture. She does seem to think of herself as a very big dog as she is always looking to defend me against the neighborhood St. Bernard when on walks. He just looks at her like, "are you serious?"

When I started my Maltese Shih Tzu obedience training, I soon found out that we'd have to change the name to 'obedience dragging' because as soon as she decided she was done, she would just lay down and I'd end up dragging her by her harness until I would realize what she was doing. She's a screwball!

She is very devoted to me and loves everyone. She has suddenly gained a lot of weight this winter and I'm a little concerned about this. I've cut back on her food a little and exercising her more. Hopefully as Spring arrives, our Maltese Shih Tzu mix will regain some of her zest. I kind of feel the same way too!

Maltese x Shih Tzu - Neo

Neo "Buddy" Taylor

Neo is more Maltese than Shih Tzu, but his Grandfather was Shih Tzu. He is an Aquarius to top it off! So he's a very special boy.

He is always wary of his surroundings and prefers things to stay "just so" or it rocks his little world. He HATES loud noise and squeaky toys. Loves METAL things... has eaten screws, earrings and his favorite "toy" was a little choker chain he found somewhere that he likes to mouth around on.

Neo is rather nervous, but has taken on a Rottweiler and a Giant Schnauzer to protect his "women" (Bailey my Yorkie mix female, and me). He will kick his back leg like a big bad bull ready to charge when he's mad and show his teeth and bark his head off.

He will sit patiently by the treat jar or near where you place your bag from McDonalds expecting his treat and if you don't happen to notice him, he "burrfs" subtly. He'll be subtle for about 5 minutes before he kicks it up a notch and then BARKS to get your attention. He never whines... he just "burrfs" when he wants something or needs help.

My Maltese Shih tzu mix is absolutely a Mama's boy! Not trustworthy around small children ( a toddler stepped on his tail once and he never forgets )

Perfect to housebreak, VERY smart. Knows several tricks. "Saluting" is his most adorable trick. He's just the best little boy you could hope for and NO DOGGIE SMELL.

He does have a problem with his teeth... he's losing more and more every year, even though I brush and get his dental cleaning at the Vet annually.

So Adorable!!

Allie is a 7 week old Maltese x Shih Tzu. Rescued from inhabitable conditions. Pure white with quite a personality. No bigger than a minute weighing in at, 1-lb.

I was told that she was a mix between Maltese (mother) and Shih Tzu (father).

When rescued, my Maltese cross Shih Tzu had fleas so bad, she lost most of her hair and it is now starting to grow back in. She still has a few bald spots but her hair is growing back quite nicely.

She barely sheds, loves to cuddle and play, and is so smart. She was incredibly easy to housebreak as well. I could not imagine my life without her. I am so glad I discovered this hybrid!

My brown and white Maltese x Shih Tzu

My Maltese x Shih Tzu Colby is now 6 months old & is doing much better at house training. I figured out he needed to go out every 2 hours on the dot. He is listening and being my perfect little lapdog in the evenings.

So playful & full of energy, the entire family has a blast with him. I just had to trim the fur around his eyes so he could see, his fur is getting so long! Might have to take him in for a real trim soon. He's weighing a little over 8 lbs. right now which is about average for a Maltese Shih Tzu mix at this age.

My Maltese x Shih tzu Molly has a sister just 11 years younger than her. She will want to play sometimes with her and will, but knows when she doesn't and just give her sis a break! Hayley is a Maltese so they have similar personalities, though molly is more boystrous and lot more Shih tzu!

She thinks she's the worlds biggest dog. When she was tiny, she had a go at a Beethoven dog and ran away literally screaming, funny at the time. MOLLY ROCKS!

Diva! Our Lil Ball of Cotton!!

Diva is an adorable all white Maltese x Shih Tzu. She is 5 months old and FULL of energy and spunk! Her name (Diva) pretty much sums her up .. she loves her baths, she likes being pampered, she like to be carried, she likes to be at your side at all times.

She is very very very smart and even when you think she's not listening to your command, trust me, she heard you but will listen when it suits her. Diva learned to pee on her pad the first day she came home! Our Maltese x Shih Tzu also adapted to doing her business outside rather quickly, but seems to prefer her pad, probably because its cold outside. She learned to be quiet in her crate at night by constant re-direction every time she made noise, always using the same words.

This little bundle of cotton is so soft and snuggly and will truly be your best pal from the day you bring her home. Our Maltese cross Shih Tzu craves lots of attention and also adapts very quickly to routines. Our family made a very wise choice with bringing Diva into our home and we wouldn't trade her for the world!

Maltese x Shih Tzu - Emma

She is lovable, protective and barks at every thing. She loves people that she knows and is scared by those she doesn't. She is my mothers dog. My Mom is 86 years old and hard of hearing. Emma is a good watch dog for her especially at night, since my mom has a hearing problem.
Emma misses nothing. My Maltese x Shih Tzu has a tendacy to bite if you try to take things out of her mouth. She can be aggressive towards some people and gentle with others. She is loved very much and adored which makes her very spoiled. My Maltese Shih Tzu is loyal. Emma has one blue eye and one black eye. No hearing problems, but her eyes do not constrict like they should which makes protecting her eyes a must.

I got my Maltese x Shih Tzu Buddy when he was three and a half months old. He was so little and fluffy. He's now almost 8 months old and is adorable, lovable and quite a handful. He has a great personality, is loving and loves people and other dogs. My Maltese Shih Tzu mix is a real joy. Oh, forgot to mention that he also is very smart. He literally housebroke himself at age 4 months.
