We just got our Maltichon today!!! We went to a pet store out of town... just for fun. Our 13 year old black Lab died a few weeks ago. We had no intention of actually purchasing a dog, but when I saw this little fur ball, I had to hold him. He looked me in the eyes, and next thing I knew, we were walking out with him. Our Maltichon has been great so far. His desire to please and interact is evident. I am nervous about the potty training though.

Snuggles the Maltichon came into the world on December 28, 2008. She was the Best doggie I've ever had since I 1st had my mind set on a Yorkie but glad that changed when I got my Maltichon Snuggles. I purchased her on Feb 1, 2009. OMG was I ever pleased. She was the MOST SOFTEST, Prettiest, lil cotton ball ever! LOL She was the Runt of the litter so she was xtra small!
She was a lil shy at 1st and didn't like attention, but over came that an LOVES attention NOW! She is very hyperactive!! GREAT lil bal of FURR!!! She is very easy to keep groomed and loves to Get dressed as if she was a lil doggie human with 4 arms. (may I add loves to get her toes polished!!)lol... At 1st she was hard to potty train, but all she needed was a schedule! Once she got used to it she was fine!
I didn't have any kids so I thought she would be a lil aggressive to kids but in fact shes not! She loves kids and other ppl.... She's still a little timid when it comes to goin out in public while in her doggie tote, or when I comes to meetin BIGGER dogs, however she's not at all aggressive!
My Maltichon is a very SMART dog, and understands basic commands.... I love her!!!! wouldn't ask for a better breed of dog! What would I do without my Snuggles??!!

Suzie is a one year old Maltichon. She was very easy to house train. Once we gave her clear rules that going in the house is wrong and going outside is right she was trained in about two months. Suzie is very spunky. She loves to play and run.
She is great with the kids, who are four and two. She loves to play hide and seek with the kids toys. She has never bitten anyone nor has she growled or shown any other signs of aggressiveness towards our family. She is protective of our family and has growled and snapped at unwelcome guest. We have found that as long as Suzie has bones and dog toys to chew she hasn’t chewed on anything else, although you should not expect every puppy to be so fond of a bone. She did start to dig, but once we treated for termites and other pest she stopped digging.
Suzie drinks a lot of water so you should be attentive when your pup comes to and lets you know its time to go out. We have had days in the summer where she comes in from outside drinks and five minutes later needs to go back out.
She loves to ride in the car. Like the Bichon, Suzie loves attention but will not challenge the kids for it. She is great with other pets. We have really enjoyed having Suzie and are looking forward to the many years we have ahead of us.

I will always remember our Maltichon "Winston". At 10 weeks he was a little ball of white fluff, too tiny to even climb the stairs! We had a ninety pound German Shepard and 3 cats, all of whom were bigger than Winston, but he eventually charmed his way into everyone's heart! (Even Missy the Cat who had a real attitude about his invasion of her space!) His first night at home, he "christened" my brand new $1200 oriental carpet, but not to worry, it cleaned up well and within 2 weeks he was completely housebroken. He even learned how to "get your leash" when he wanted to go out!
His snow white puppy coat grew until it touched the floor. I combed him every single day and he looked like a little dust mop running thru the house! We woke up one morning to find his beautiful coat had suddenly turned into a giant hair-ball! In a panic, I took him to the groomer, a delightful lady from England. She laughed and said "Don't worry, his puppy coat has just fallen out." When I returned to pick him up, I almost didn't recognize him! She had given him the most beautiful puppy cut I've ever seen! Suddenly, he looked all grown up!
She trimmed his neck in close, and sculpted his head in such a way that he had "a visor" above his eyes and finished him off with a bright, crisp bandanna! That look just said "Hi,I'm Winston!" That was his haircut for the rest of his life!
He was a perfect gentleman, even as a young dog. We only had one health crisis with him. When he went for his shots, he had a bad reaction to one of the vaccines. By the time I got home from the vet, he was going into shock. The vet said to bring him back right away, and gave him a shot of benadryl. He was fine within fifteen minutes, but we NEVER gave him another leptospirosis vaccine !
Winston loved to perform. In fact, he was really more interested in performing than he was in getting the treat! I remember one day walking past the kitchen and I saw him "sitting up" (we called it "give me two feets"), looking intently at the kitchen counter! I just observed quietly . . . suddenly one of his treats flew off the counter and he caught it in mid air . . . I didn't make a sound, this was just too cool! I moved to the other side of the doorway for a better view . . . our calico cat, Prissy, was hockey pucking his treats (from the tipped-over box) one at a time from the kitchen counter, and he was "performing" for her! They had no idea they had an audience!
Winston & Prissy were best friends from the moment they met. They would chase each other, attack each other, wrestle with each other, "box" with each other, they were inseparable! Winston's other buddy was our 14 pound Maine Coon, Ben. They would nap together on the sofa, and sometimes, Winston would even clean Benny's ears!
Winston only had two toys that he really liked. One was yellow latex centipede (we had a red one, too, but he only liked the yellow one)! The other was a hedgehog that made a grunting sound. At Christmas my husband would set up his L Guage (large size) train in the living room and put "Hedgie" on one of the flat cars. Winston would watch it go around until he figured out the timing, then rush in and rescue "Hedgie" from the moving train! He never knocked a single car over in the rescue! (But when he was younger he used to steal the little green Christmas trees from around the track!)
Winston had a personal relationship with everyone! Even crabby old Missy . . . she was kind of a misfit personality, but every once in a while, Winston would run up behind her and surprise her with a playful little nip on her butt! It wasn't disrespectful, really, he just wanted her to know he loved her, too!
I could write a book about what a wonderful creature Winston was, but let it suffice to say that, in the days before "Maltichon's" were "designer dogs", Winston was one. Extremely intelligent, personable, playful, obedient, you couldn't ask for more! If you have a Maltichon, or are planning to acquire one, I cannot tell you what a wonderful relationship you're in for.
Just one word of advice. Take time to teach him or her . . . if you just let your pet be "cute", you will never discover the amazing intelligence they possess. Your Maltichon will surprise you every day if you will be faithful to teach him or her what you want. And remember to talk to him/her like a person, they love eye contact! Expect much, you won't be disappointed!
So sorry I don't have a picture to share with you!

Handsome little man
Hi everybody I would like to introduce myself. I am a Maltichon and my name is Finnigan or Finn for short (and sometimes I even get called "you little monkey" I am 11 months old and spoiled rotten. I have a 14 year old sister who is a yellow lab and I love her to bits, sometimes but not very often I think she gets fed up of me teasing her and she will show me how big and white her teeth are and boy when I see those pearly whites I know its time to hide ha ha ha.
I weigh about 12 pound and I have white curlyish hair which is quite difficult to keep groomed because I sqirm all over when my mum trys to brush me, I am a very handsome Maltichon. and I have a personality that will knock your socks off and a brilliant set of lungs. I will post a photograph of me on this site very soon but I hope all you girls out there don't fight over me because I am soooooooooooooo cute. Justin Beiber move over!!!.
I can't wait to chat to some of my fellow Maltichons.

Bella is a six year old Maltichon. She is very loving but also very protective of her owner. She rules the house over a Golden Retriever, Lab and 2 cats. Loves to bark! She is my baby and I have to admit, some of my Malticon's attitude was learned by her mommy.

Buddy!
Buddy is a playful and lively 2 yr old Maltichon. His fur is not quite straight and not quite curly and of course, white. He is a little bit naughty, but has not done any seriously bad things. He is great around kids. My Bichon Maltese does have a problem barking at people walking by or people that come to visit and he is protective of his family. All in all, my Maltichon is a good dog!

I don't know where to begin. My Maltichon is my third dog. I had a Westie that bit me and everyone else and had to be put down. I purchased him from a breeder and did it all the right way and had disastrous results. Then I found Rooskey at a shelter. He was a pure breed Shihtzu and bit me and everyone else to the point of stitches and surgery. Had to put him down too. I felt like the "Dog Murderer" instead of the "Dog Whisperer"
Then, I passed a doggie accessory store and walked in and saw two adorable Maltichons. I picked up my Rosie and she kissed me to death and played with her sibling and seemed as sweet as could be. I left and came back and got her and we've been living the past 7 months happily ever after. She's sweet, smart as heck, loving, playful, obedient and so easily trained. We went to Kinderpuppy and she was the star. She's so responsive and just a happy, cute litte dog. Three times the charm.
Don't hesitate bringing a Maltichon into your home. She's my little love.

Sammy the Maltichon as in "Sammy the Bull" thinks he is ten times his actual size. He is very affectionate, but a "needy" dog. He needs attention every waking minute and is very jealous of any affection that doesn't include him.
With that said, he is very cuddly and willing to take a nap with anyone, anytime. He is an extremely loud barker and easily excited, can also cry with just a sad look thrown his way.
If a big personality is the trait you are looking for this dog is for you. Be careful though, Maltichons are extremely tough to house break.
My gorgeous little Maltichon Niro has just turned 1 and resembles the Maltese much more than the Bijon. His hair has no curl but is much fluffier than a Maltese's, and he is the same size as a Maltese, but does resemble a Bichon in his face.
He is playful and loving, but is prone to some naughty habits, ie stealing things and running around with them, and chewing pillows and other things. He loves to go for long walks, barking at his lead none stop every morning until I take him out, and even after an hour walk he will start to moan for another walk when we get home.
He is fantastic with other dogs and children, although doesn't seem to realize his size when trying to play fight with bigger dogs! He is very yappy, he will bark when he's happy, when he's sad, basically most of the day. I have an brilliant bond with Niro and he will always come when called, on my arrival home from work he will jump 5 feet in the air into my arms.
We have a fenced off garden which is available to him at any time, in the summer he will spend all his time in the garden, but in winter he will only go out for the toilet or when he hears next door's dog's barking.
This little dog has the most energy I have ever seen in any breed and is a pleasure to have, I love him to bits.

My Maltichon is very playful especially with children. He is so playful that some children get scared because he always jumps to their face to lick them.
Rocky my dog is so special to us because he is a very obedient dog that did not require alot of training like other dogs do and he likes to walk in two feet to get our attention.
What we love about our Maltichon dog is that he doesn't bark allot and he sleeps allot like us. My dog Rocky always loves being around us.

Ruffie II is our 9 year old Maltichon baby. He is very spoiled. We love him to death. He's happy go lucky and does the Bichon blitz. He loves to wear his coats, sweaters and pants. He will dress up for Halloween, Christmas and Easter.
He loves to play with his brothers but when its sleep time its pick me up and his head lays on your shoulder and he goes to sleep. He talks with his big dark eyes and a tilt of his head. He understands every word you say. We'd be lost without our Maltichon. He also loves to pose for pictures.

Maddie is an adorable little fluff ball of a dog whom thinks of herself as a person so please don't tell her any different.
Maddie is a Maltichon. She looks much more Maltese than Bichon. She is solid white and has the most beautiful, sweet black eyes and a black button nose.
Maddie's loves are: going bye-bye, playing with all her toys, getting dressed, cuddling, snuggling, sleeping under the covers, giving kisses, loving on the kids... Mostly she is the sweetest, most loving, cuddliest girl I have ever had the pleasure to know. I don't think she has a mean bone in her tiny body.
Maddie weighs less than 2 pounds and is nearly 14 weeks of age. Surprising my little princess has loved the snow although in some spots it was a bit too deep for her teeny tiny self. Lol.
All in all I feel extremely lucky that my Maltichon Madison came into my life. She has filled a spot in my heart that has been void for quite some time. In short we love her.

Hi there! I own a Maltichon and he is the most wonderful thing to ever happen to me. My family purchased him 4 years ago and the people we bought him from told us that he was a Maltese. I did some research and came to the conclusion that he isn't just a maltese but a Bichon as well! He meets all of the qualities listed above. My Maltichon is the sweetest dog you'll ever meet and fufills me with unconditional love every single day.

Mellery is a delightful Maltichon - she is very loving, extremely intelligent, and playful. If there is something to get into - she finds it.
She is now 1 year old. When she was small she slept on my bed with me and my Cairn Terrier... but... she delighted in getting off the bed in the middle of the night and starting up my ROOMBA! I would wake to the sounds of my carpets being vacuumed. And, if the ROOMBA got stuck under a chair, Mellery would pound on the start button until she got it going again. She now sleeps in a crate in the utility room.
I highly recommend a Maltichon - my 14 year old Bichon Frise died 2 years ago and I dearly miss him, but Mellery is even more playful and more loving than the purebred Bichon.

Cassi is half Maltese and half Bichon. She is a little bigger than most Maltese, about 12 lbs. Her fur is soft and gets a little bit of a curl to it when it grows out.
She has a very good temperament and loves to play and cuddle. She is a good companion and always loves to be with her people. She is so much fun and so curious and always ready to play fetch or tug of war. You can watch her video below.

You will be amazed to know that my little Maltichon Betsy understand 3 languages! Maltichons are very intelligent but all our friends are impressed that she knows 3 languages. I would tell her in Russian: Go get you leash! Betsy will go and find it.
My husband is American and he would tell her the same command in English and she will go and get the leash! But that is not all, Betsy was born in Armenia so when she was a baby we were talking to her in Armenian and I still do sometimes and if I want to have her to come and give me a kiss I would tell her that command in Armenian and she will get out from wherever she has been hiding and will come and give me a kiss/wet nose poking or leaking.
Now we are working on her German. Betsy is getting annoyed by other dogs. I am convinced that my Maltichon is quite sure that she is a human and when dogs are approaching her she just cannot stand it!
Another amazing thing she does which amuses us all is whenever I am strongly engaged in a face to face conversation with my daughter Betsy comes lays down on my lap or right next to me and slowly starts demanding an attention from me and in case if I continue ignoring her she is switching to more loud voice and pokes me with her little cute pinky noise and keeps on complaining until I put my hand on her and give her a little rub(:
She is quite a globe traveler as well! We were living in Armenia, Russia, United States LA, and then Boston MA, Rome and Milan and now she is in Zurich Switzerland!

Little Max is our very smart Maltichon. When he wants to go outside he pulls on our close to tell us he has to go potty. He just started doing it one day and we could not figure out why until he peed on the floor. We have not been able to train him because he stubborn.
He loves his little teddy bear that squeaks. We call him cigar man because he carries his bones in his mouth like he has a cigar in his mouth. My mother, who is the owner, has back problems and he will turn around with his butt toward so she can pick him up without hurting her or him by pulling him up with his front legs. When he gets tired he will start licking you.
The only problems we have with our Maltichon is his constant barking at every little noise. Also he will not jump up on beds or furniture, which would both help my mother and I because of our back problems. Does anyone have any suggestions?
He is our little sweetheart, and we can't remember what it is before we got him. My dad gets up set because he will only come to my mom and I. He thinks we are the greatest. We love him to death. Also he knows every toy that is his, and if you try to move it he will go and get it and put it back where it was. I hope everyone enjoys reading about Little Max.

I got my Maltichon when she was eight weeks old, I had her for about three months when I lost my father I named her Coconut but she is truly my little angel dog.
She is the sweetest and smartest dog that I have ever seen. By the time she was ten weeks old, granted I did not get her until 8 wks, She had already been taught to sit, speak, lay, roll over, high five, shake, play dead and do a little dance. She is sooo funny and loves to chill on her back whenever she goes to sleep.
She does not like it when you are sad and will lick your face off when you cry until you stop. She is definitely my pride and joy and when I lost my dad she was there for me at every turn and helped me to have the strength I needed to go on without him I would be upset and cry and turn around and she would just be there no sound like an angel. She has truly been a blessing to me and is a big clown and steals the show, show her a trick once and she gets it if you have something she wants she will do every trick she knows one after the other without being told to try and impress you to get her way. She has even tried this with my Bichon that I rescued too funny (he's not impressed lol)
She also wants to be a Mommy really bad and when she is in heat for a couple weeks she carries a squeaky toy around everywhere and whines and pretends it's her baby. It's cute but kinda sad hope this gives anyone interested an insight to the breed, ... now all I need are some puppies any volunteers :)?

My Maltichon. In his first 9 months of existence in our family, we later recognized that his size is getting bigger and then due to my uncomfortable feeling, I searched if my dog has a crossbreed, and then suddenly, I've read that most of dog breeders mix Maltese with Bichon. I've searched images of Bichon and Maltese mix and it's the same as mine?! Gosh?! I'm shocked? After all the times were together and calling him a Maltese, he is a Maltichon after all?!
Well, it's ok for me. It doesn't disappoint me that much. He is a lovable, obedient, well socialized, playful and energetic dog that makes me feel light whenever I feel blue. He is a perfect dog for me!! I'm telling other dog lovers to choose a Maltichon and enjoy the ride in his perfect kind of life!!
Godspeed!!!

After reading over 30 of your posts, I am convinced that the Maltichon is the right dog for us! We had a very bad experience with our last dog. I take full responsibility. I jumped and took a dog from a friend who had gotten divorced and couldn't keep it.
Chico was an American Eskimo and was one year old. He was ok, at first but then I started noticing that he was aggressive toward other people's children. It got worse and worse. He even got agressive with my husband. I was so afraid of that dog! I have NEVER been afraid of dogs until......Chico. We got him neutered.....nothing changed.....It was hard making the decision to get rid of him, I felt a sense of responsibility. I cared for the dog, even though he had snapped at my daughter, frightened countless guests to our home, and killed my bunny. And did he have the most annoying high pitched bark!!!!!! We tried so hard to find a home for him. For months.....I knew he could be a good pet for someone, just not us. I really felt bad for him. The kids and I were so afraid of him, we didn't want to be anywhere near him. He didn't deserve that. That is why we brought him to a local no kill shelter. It was very sad. Daddy took him. He even admited getting a little teary eyed and Daddy doesn't cry! I am still afraid of dogs. But I want to get over my fear and I don't want my girls to be afraid of dogs any longer either.
We have breeder friends who generously offered to give us one of their Malchicons as a gift. I have been researching all night. Read a lot of articles on websites, but it was the personal notes from actual owners that convinced me this is truly a special breed of dog. It is with high hopes that we will go and pick out our female Malchicon tomorrow! Any suggestions for a name?!

Our Maltichon was a stray- I actually rescued him running down the middle of a highway during a bad storm.. Every effort was made to find his family with no luck- so he's our baby now.
We have a 3 year old and 2 elderly cats and if he had shown any sign of "nippiness" we would have passed on becoming owners. We have always had BIG dogs so this was a change for us- Both of our beloved Lab mixes died within 9 months of each other not very long before we found Louie-
We were NOT in the market for another pet- feeling that our life was "Full" enough with taking care of our daughter.
My husband was REALLY against getting a dog and wanted me to drop him off at the No Kill shelter the morning after his rescue. I came home after working the next night and found the dog fast asleep in our bed- tucked in with my husband!!
Needless to say- that was it. Our Maltichon was family from that night on and continues to sleep peacefully between my husband and I. He puts up with my less then gentle 3 year old with infinite patience and has taken a very NON Alpha Dog position with our cats.
In summary- he is wonderful, smart, sweet, great with kids, cats, other dogs, just everybody and everything. He does REFUSE to go outside in the rain to pee/poop- so we have puppy pads down for our bad weather days- but generally he goes outside and is a total joy. Everywhere we take him people comment how cute and sweet he is and even though our vet guesses he is between 2 & 3 years old- most think he is still a puppy. We love our Maltese Bichon mix Louie!!
