He is the most adorable Papitese dog. We have had him for over 3 years, since he was a puppy. We always thought he was a Maltese Pomeranian cross as that was what he was sold as. It was only last week that we were told that he is definitely a papitese and after seeing pictures of other Papitese dogs we now know that is true. People always commented on his ears. He is the sort of dog that people stop & look at all the time & say how beautiful he is & he loves the attention. He is so active! Unbelievably so. He plays ball... and can even manouvre a soccer ball back which amuses all our friends. He is the best watchdog you can imagine & his hearing is incredible. Leo has a lovely friendly nature & is a social dog. He settles at night with no fuss. He sleeps all night in his own bed without coming in to our room..although occasionally he pops his head in just to see if we are awake. Easy to toilet train, picks up tricks so easily. I would say he is really intelligent. Not a fussy eater either. He does tend to bring things inside to play with... like sticks & apples that fall from the tree so it's not unusual to have some sort of surprise waiting for you... if you have been out for awhile & don't leave him a toy or 2 to play with. He loves to drag the paper in each morning... although as it is heavy my husband goes out with him & helps..so that he feels he has done it all himself & then rewards him with a little treat. He loves chewing rawhide sticks. We haven't had any trouble with him chewing furniture or shoes, etc. We just adore him so much. We called him Leo because he was such a fluff ball & looked like a little lion!

I am so sold on getting a Papitese after reading your comments - sounds like an absolutely wonderful breed mix! One big question: would you comment on whether your Papitese sheds or not? I have allergies and need a non-shedding dog so would love to hear what to look for... And, at what age do dogs show exhibit what their shedding will be like as adults? I've found a 7 month old Papitese and the current owner says he doesn't shed, but maybe we just don't know... Thanks!

We adopted our Papitese Daisy when she was 12 weeks old. She has been fantastic personality wise. She is bouncy and loving with everyone. I was attracted to her because we were looking for a small dog for my 8 year old daughter, and as soon as my daughter picked her up, Daisy would hold still and be calm. Even at 12 weeks, she had a sweet calm nature about her.
I have been amazed at her intelligence, she quickly learned to sit, shake, lay down, and key words like "all done", "out". My only complaint is she doesn't make noise to go out. Our Papitese in fact doesn't bark at all, which is nice, but.... So we just have to watch her, because she goes to the door and looks out, but if you miss this clue then she will go to her training pad.
I would suggest this mixed breed to anyone that has time to spend with a dog. Daisy does want to be with us at all times, even on trips. We have 2 cats and they all three have become friends. I would love to chat with others that have a Papitese.

Bailey at 6 years
I got my Papitese from a mom and pop dog shop in Chatsworth, CA. in March of 2005. I held her and from that moment on she was mine. I would highly recommend getting a Papitese! Her coat changed as she got older from very fine and "Don King-ish" to more coarse wavy coat. Not only are they AH-DOR-ABLE but they are so kind and loving. Bailey is now 6 years old and still playful as ever. She is kind to any dog or animal that passes by but does tend to keep to herself when at the dog parks. She does great with small children and I trust her fully not to hurt them.
My Maltese Papillon mix has a huge personality and talks back to me often... although I find it funny! When she is hungry or excited, she picks up her ceramic dog dish and throws it around the kitchen or clangs it into the other dog dish... she is hilarious. I love her so much and I am SO happy and grateful to have her in my life!!

Up until a week ago I never thought that I could be obsessed with a dog. I've realised now that I can't, because I'm not obsessed with a dog, but with my tiny son.
Minish my 8 week old Papitese puppy (and starting puppy school in 2 days) He is not only kind loving and so very smart, but I've never loved a little creature as much as I love him.
Toilet training is getting better day-by-day and he LOOOOOVES playing with his dad :)
I thank God (and my boyfriend) for being blessed with my Papitese in my life.

We adopted our male Papitese from a animal rescue shelter in Sydney - it was the best decision we ever made. He loves the cooler climate of the highlands of New South Wales. He gets so excited on our walks and when I get home from work... Great family pet.
My Papitese is 2 years old. I adopted him last year when an acquaintance could not keep him because of his constant barking. Domino is very intelligent but requires a great deal of attention and is quite demanding - insists on paying fetch and getting belly rubs when he wants to. Although sociable, he does bark non stop when he meets new people. Because we exercise him daily, we do not have any problems with him barking in our condo.

This is our Papitese Happy. She is the most loving dog we have ever seen. Loyal, spirited and intelligent... I couldn't ask for a better companion. She loves everyone and everyone loves the Happy Dog. :)

Billy was my shadow for 14 years. God I miss him. Would get another anytime. He was one well travelled little dog. Conney Sue Highway, Anne Beadell Highway, Great Central Rd, Simson Desert, All over the Pilbara and else where in Australia. My little mate, gone but never forgotten. Rest in peace and get them cats!

Princess Bella or "BellBell" is literally the cutest and most loving Papitese girl you will ever meet. As soon as you walk in the house she will greet you like you have been gone for years. She is very smart; when I go to put my shoes on she can tell that I'm about to leave and she will jump in my lap and just look at me as if she is saying "please don't leave me." She is constantly energetic, but when it is nap time, she will immediately cuddle up next to you and fall asleep. Bella knows that everyone loves her and she soaks up the attention.

Josefine (Josie) our female Papitese came to our place four weeks ago when she was 8 weeks old. We got her from a farm and she has one gorgeous sister.
She is a mix of Malteser Lion and Papillion with standing ears, hers will - most probably - hang, though. She has three colors, mainly white, black spots on her back and face and also brown in the face.
She is a very loyal dog, always following me. She knows simple commandos such as sit, lay down, come here and stay (in Dutch though, as we live in the Netherlands, and my husband is Dutch).
We also attend a puppy class. She is doing very well and seems to enjoy it too. After the class and a short nap, she is already standing (sitting) ready for the next lection. Also in general she prefers brain work. She also likes bringing things.
She is also walking considerably well on the lead, mostly without pulling.
Josie is a real pleasure to have in the house, especially the mornings, when she comes in to wake us up - with her wiggling tail are fantastic.
