4 month Papitese, Codie

4 month Papitese, Codie

Well, where do I start, Codie is the cutest little thing ever. She's 4 months old.

She is very active puppy, always running around playing with anything she can get her paws on. She gets a little over excited sometimes wee's everywhere.

She very protective and barks at anyone and any dog even if they are 20 times bigger than her. Loves walks, hates being alone, she'll bark and scratch at the door til someones with her. She's a great dog.

Gypsy the Papitese

by Carrie H
(USA)

Gypsy under the Christmas tree

Gypsy under the Christmas tree

Gypsy is a Maltese Papillon mix, or Papitese, and is a sweet funny lovable lil puff of fur. She is a gift from Heaven and a blessing. She has the best personality. She is the love of a lifetime, and has changed my life forever. Without her I would be lost. I never expected anything like this when I went on my quest for a fur baby.

Her bad habits are rather limited... she likes Q-tips and toilet paper.. but lately has refrained from even that.. she does however have a weakness for her Daddy's socks! She loves to play and act silly.

When I leave for the day my only thought is to hurry up so I can get back to her, and when I walk in she is so crazy happy to see me... I let her out of her crate and she wiggles and whines and jumps straight in my arms, kissing me anywhere she can.

She loves kids... absolutely loves them. She tries to be a protector not realizing she couldn't hurt anyone if she tried. She is quiet and obedient... doing everything I tell her to do. She loves to pose and dress up.

It is truly like having the perfect child. I can't imagine life without this lil rag-a-muffin. I didn't think my husband would be very interested in her, but turns out she stole his heart also!

She loves everyone and everything.. but her true love is me , her Mommy. Where ever I am she is somewhere close by.. she hates for us to be apart. We are the best of friends.. if only she could talk... hahaha!

Special Papitese - Charlie

Charlie

Charlie

Charlie the Papitese is five years old he has a special personality. He is very affectionate. He gets along with everybody. He is also afraid of the dark. And I think that sometimes he forgets he's a dog and not a person he loves to go for car rides.

Everywhere we go he gets so many compliments and he loves it. I love my Papitese Charlie, he's the greatest dog. I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world.

Papitese - Bobby

by Austynne Holland
(Scottsdale, Arizona)

My Papitese dog Bobby is about one year old. Bob is a very cheerful fun loving dog to have around the house. He is very good with kids and always ready to play.

Bobby definetly has a mind of his own and when disciplined you can't say dogs forgive and forget, he remembers and sometimes tries to discipline back. He's such an amazing addition to our family. though when we looked up a the Papitese mix before buying we expected to have a little sized dog... haha good ol' bob is a whopping 20 pounds. Not just a thicker Papitese but also tall. Sometimes our family jokes that we actually paid for a miniature Bernice mountain dog.

His markings are beautiful he is all white with black ears and a black spot on his behind covering his right cheek, with a long fluffy straight tail that curls up over onto his back. grooming for bob is easy, get him cut about once every 3-5 months to keep his hair from growing out of control. since he is white, we bath him once every week to keep his coat looking nice.

Great dog, training takes a bit of work but work through the knots and a papitese is a great loyal fun loving companion, no matter who is the household.

Papitese - Scooby

Our Papitese is very affectionate and has been very easy to train. He was crate trained very early and has been house trained since about 4-5 months. He is around 2 children ages 8 and 10. They have never had issues with him and he likes to sleep in their rooms. We are a very athletic family and he runs up to 5 miles with us. He was a breed that met all of our needs as a family pet. Our Papitese does not shed, is hypoallergenic, barks very little, can exercise safely with us and has a wonderful temperment.

Papitese Princess - Tootsie-Rose

by Michelle Harron
(Gold Coast Australia)

We've had our little Papitese Princess for nearly ten years now, she will be ten on the 24th of March and we celebrate her birthday every year.
She is the best behaved dog we have ever had, so easy to look after and we all love her dearly!
I have never known a dog to be so happy to see you when you get home from work, and her memory of family and friends is incredible.

She is very responsive to commands with her favourite - liver treats, she licks her lips when she sees them and will do almost anything you ask of her.

She had to have some dental work done last year, but apart from no longer being able to peel her own grapes she copes quite well!

Even friends who are not 'dog lovers' want to take her home as she is so cute and adorable.

No Grapes For Doggies....
by: "Just Trying To Help"

I loved your article, however, you mentioned that your dog can no longer "peel her own grapes?" Grapes are deadly to dogs... you might want to discuss this with your vet. I personally know two people who have lost dogs to this. Grapes can cause renal failure and it only takes a couple. You will not notice it right away, it is a slower process, but it is poisonous to a dogs system. Please check with your vet on this subject.

Every where I take him he steals all the attention. He is the sweetest most adorable baby. My Papitese may be very small but he has a great big heart.

My BABY as a pup

Getting my Papitese Tobi is one of the very best decisions I have ever made! Omigosh I luv my dog soooo much. He is a part of my family. I just can't wait to get home from work to see what he's up to and how he's doing.

He is an excellent dog, very obedient, loyal, and playful. He luvs sleepin on his back (we call it road kill style cuz that's what he looks like lol). He also uvs layin down to watch tv with me and luvs playing catch n tug o war. He has a fav toy duck and absolutely luvz treets :)

He is a bit spoiled with house food, but I make sure to give him healthy stuff like veggies :) He LUVS carrots! He's such a good boy when I leave for work... makes no noise and goes straight to sleep usually.

He totally recognizes the sound my car alarm makes when I lock it and meets me at the door and when I'm runnin a bit late he is faithfully at the window inspecting every car that passes by! I luv him :)

Precious Little Papitese - Sydnie

by Colleen & Tom
(Scottsdale, AZ )

Precious Little One

Precious Little One

Sydnie is the cutest, sweetest friend ever! She loves to be with us at all times. No matter how tired she is, she will keep one eye opened at all times to make sure she can follow us to another room. She LOVES all other dogs and people. No matter how big or mean the other dog is to her~ she'll jump all over him/her with excitement and playfulness. She squeals so much when we are on walks and sees others and they don't want to come over to where we are. She is 9 months old now and weighs 5 1/2 lbs.

Sydnie is very protective of us and tends to bark whenever she's hears noises outside. We are trying to work on this with her. She definitely knows when she isn't supposed to have certain things in her mouth. She tells me this by running under the bed and getting to a spot in the middle where we can't reach her. She loves to play this game. It makes us laugh as long as it isn't something that could hurt her. She loves shoes, socks and anything under the bathroom sink (she can open the cabinet door now!)

We can't imagine our life without this precious little soul. She has a heart of gold and makes us so happy and filled with joy. She has the cutest personality and loves to give kisses. We are pretty sure she thinks she is a human and not a dog. She is always jumping up and standing on her hind legs. We love it when she sits on her hind legs and rubs her paws on her cheeks.

We love little Sydnie so much!

We found pens, pencils, hair clips, and some of my favorite shoes. I dont know how they get to these things, but they do hehehe. My dog also follows me everywhere. Every little sound we make she will pop her eyes open making sure im not going anywhere. Good wishes you you both!

Papitese - Cookie Dog

Cutie Pie

Cutie Pie

Cookie is a 2 1/2 year old Papitese and has absolutely been the best dog we have ever owned. She weighs approximately 7 pounds, beautiful coloring, great personality, smart, loves to retrieve, loving, has never met an enemy; what else can I say!

I had no idea what this Papillon Maltese mixture was all about; the lady that sold her to us basically said I would never go to the bathroom alone again and boy was she right! She watches over me like a hawk and remains by my side at all times.

Your Cookie is absolutely adorable.
I'm interested in the breeder you went through to get Cookie.
I believe the Papitese is one of the best combinations of the mix breeds.
Knowing that the Maltese doesn't shed, is that the case with the Papitese?

I appreciate your response.

Hard to Housebreak Papitese - Tebow

by Drew
(Coral Springs, FL)

This dog is very cute and loves people but is the DUMBEST dog I've ever owned. I can not housebreak this dog to save my life. I've had dogs my whole life. Collie, lab, mutt, and now a Havanese and this Papitese. Never have I not been able to house train one of them except this cute little dummy.

I have given up and am sending him away for someone with more patience than me. I will replace him with a Havanese. Breaks my heart to do it but he's a lost cause. After my experience I'd say never, never, never get a Papitese unless you don't mind cleaning up after it for ever or walking it every 2 hours.

The place I bought him from confused me with someone else that was trying to return one of their puppies, so I now know I'm not the only one with this problem.

housetraining issues NEW
by: Anonymous

Our pup trained quickly but then a few weeks later started having accidents. We learned that certain types of food caused her to have crystals in her bladder. These would make it difficult for her to urinate and she had to pee in small amounts frequently. We set up a pee pad and this elimated all accidents. There were some days when she would be on that pad 15 times an hour. This problem can cause the dog to have a weak bladder and they are not able to control flow very well.
I'm so thankful we had the patience and compassion to allow her to have an option to relieve herself when necessary. It's important to know that this may not be an issue of obedience or intelligence but another physical problem that makes it difficult for them to house train like other dogs. I have to say as far as other training goes this is the smartest and most loving dog we have owned in all our years. I'm so glad we didn't give up on her!! She is a most awesome dog!!!

Potty Training our Papimese (Wuzzy)
by: Darlene

We adopted Wuzzy who is 6 to 8 months old and was not house trained. On Valentines day she has been with us 2 weeks and I can truthfully say she is doing great with potty training. Yes we take her out about every 2 hours and she gets a treat for going. In the past week she has only had 2 accidents and they were happy pee when she saw one of us after being gone for awhile. In the first week we took her out about every 2 to 3 hours but now goes out usually once a night. We are an older couple and it has been awhile since we've had a puppy but the love she gives is worth the time it takes. If I was still a working woman with young kids I would never take on the responsibility of a puppy. It is not fair to you or the puppy. Hope you find a good home with someone who will have the time and patience.

He can go all nite now from 10 pm to 8 am with no problem. It just takes a lot of work, they are not self training !

Every dog is different
by: Anonymous

I don't think it's fare to blame the breed,I have a litter of four paptese pups and with a little efort on my part they have been paper trained since they were three weeks old.Given a bit more time and maybe putting down a pee pad for times when you'll be out eventually he will get it.I know believe me cleaning up after them can get annoying, but in the end they are just little dogs with little bladders so all I can suggest is a little patience and understanding.Let him know when he's done good in a big way,he will learn what makes you happy and want to please you.Good luck!!

Easier said then done
by: Mandy Calhoun

I totally can understand your feelings Drew. Our little Pippin has not been the easiest to train either. My husband was convinced that we would never do it and I even looked into sending him somewhere to have it done for me. But something clicked around 7-8 months and he doesn't do anything anymore. I also had him fixed and he has calmed down tremendously. Now we also changed his food which I think was the major difference. The puppy food "Ultra" was too much for our little guy and we started giving him the adult small breed formula "Ultra" and he has not had but 2 accidents in 5 weeks. Those accidents were in the night in his kennel. I'm sorry to hear that it hasn't worked out for you and your Te bow but if you still have your little guy you might want to give him just a little longer and try changing his food and limiting his water. Good Luck.

Training your dog
by: Kim Pulsipher

It is obvious that you just want to get rid of the dog. Of course it shakes when you pick it up. Do you realize how much bigger you are than him? I feel sorry for the pup. Don't malign the dog when it is you that doesn't like the dog. Did he pay more attention to the kids than you and your feelings are hurt or what? Have you even tried to help the pup through the doggy door? He won't know automatically. The cat litter is a great idea. Get him used to going there and then slowly move the box toward the door, then just outside the door, then toward the grass, then into the grass, then take it away. Some thoughtful effort on your part will give you a pet that is wonderful, loving, and charming.

Have you tried a litterbox? Just spray some pee
scent on the litter and it works like a charm. Our

to clean up the clumping litter and you're not
going to have to walk him every 2 hours.

I promise you that you can't come up with a training trick that I haven't tried. Nothing has worked after 5 1/2 months of trying. He's at the point now that when I bend down to lease him or pick him up to take him outside he pees right on the spot, and he quite often won't go outside on his own. I've never beat him or done anything to hurt him physically, but I guess my frustrations are now affecting him and he's scared of me when I try to get him to go outside. If I get him outside with a treat that works but he doesn't learn to do it on his own. I have a pet door that my cat and Havanesse use but he won't use it unles he follows them. If he has to pee and I don't some how get him outside or the havanesse doesn't happen to go out he'll stay inside and mess on the floor or ocasionally on the furniture. He's getting more difficult to work with instead of easier.

Why give up on the best friend you may ever have?
by: Anonymous

I don't know if there is a difference between girl and boy dogs in training them. They need a lot more chances to go outside because of their size. I do know that they have a much smaller bladder than the dogs you stated you have owned. Why are you compairing this tiny dog to them? My little girl is not stupid but very stubborn but once you get her to agree to something, she will do it forever. Have you really given this dog a chance? Have you tried potty pads? How about some love and patience? My little girl will do anything for some kitty treats. Have you tried giving him a treat every time he does manage to go potty outside? I am sorry you are having so much trouble, but you have a responsability that you assumed when you purchased the dog to do the best you can for it. Every puppy has its challanges. Don't give up on this one.

I don't think I was reaching out. I'm mad about being sold a dog that was touted as being a wonderful choice as a family dog when this mix probably isn't a good mix. I don't have connections. These other dogs I've had are over a 45 year period. Hey people can breed dogs and sell them as the greatest thing around which is what is going on with this relatively new mix. But I want to warn people that this mix can be a probelm with house braeking like none I've ever experienced. My kids are heart broken and I'm out over a thousand dollars if you add up all the vet bills the purchase price. Not to mention I feel like I've been supporting the paper towel industry. It's safe to sell your Bounty stock now.

Perhaps you reached out to get a reaction - so - here is mine - I feel for your frustration - having had to clean up after a human for quite sometime...that is incompetent and incontinent - very bad situation - your situation is that this little boy has some issues and it goes away, unlike an IMPOSSIBLE situation - perhaps a friend could step in and help - but, to me, how is it that you've had all these dogs and came again to purchase one at a store w/ all of the connections you have - perhaps this is a situation where they were not weaned properly - but - I feel your pain - but please be sure you give him to a good home - PLEASE!!!

We brought our Papitese pup home a few days ago and we are all in love with him. What a wonderful personality!

He is so lovable and gets along great with our other pets. They are the ones who are adjusting at the moment but he seems like he will be a fine breed to share a home with cats.

At 12 weeks, he is already trying to do tricks and it is obvious that training this intelligent boy will be easy. I notice that the adults vary in appearance but no matter what he looks like, I know he is going to be loved forever here.

Tyson (aka Ty-bo, Ty-Ty) is a 3 year old Papitese, hails from Akron, Ohio and is a VERY smart little guy. He loves affection and is always your favorite "couch buddy".

He has a great personality and you can always tell what kind of mood he is in. He cannot seem to choose which toy he likes the best but, if he hears any of their "names", he will get that specific toy! My Papitese loves to play fetch, going for car rides with his dad and playing with his adopted sister, Sammie, also a Maltese!

Got any food for me?

She is a wonderful Papitese we adopted through a rescue shelter. Her mother was Maltese and her father was Papillon.

She was badly abused before we got her and have had to work hard to make her feel secure. She now is able to be in public without wanting to sit on my head.

She used to get the pink stains on her face until we found she was allergic to wheat. Now she only gets them when she steals a sandwich or a piece of pizza!! However, if you tell her she is getting fat, she won't eat for a couple of days. Has to keep her Maltese driven figure!!!

Rosie and our Austrian Terrier Cami get along really well and enjoy running in the park. They play "chase each other" before bedtime every night.

We are so happy she joined our family.

papitese
by: Anonymous

After reading everyone's comments on this breed, I can hardly wait to get one. My husband came across a woman who belongs to Animal Rescue. She has one who weighs almost 4lbs and is approximately 1 1/5 years old!!! She tells him that the puppy is just adorable. He saw him and his little chihauhau buddy this morning. Needless to say, we are going to see them both tomorrow. We are going to adopt both puppies and give them a wonderful home

Gizmo
by: Little Miss Muffit

How old is Gizmo? Sounds like he needs to be socialized more. These little dogs get nervous and very protective as well. Introduce her to more people and other dogs as much as you can. Hold her and don't allow her to bark, snap or bite. Allow the other dogs to sniff her "rear" and allow her to do the same--all the time monitoring her and telling her "no barking!" "no biting!" Our Miss Muffit, a Morkie, is seven months old now. She was more friendly when she was younger. Now she is more afraid of dogs than she was and also more protective of me. We continue to not let her be that way telling her that her behavior is not acceptable and not allowing her to bark or bite or hide either. I think she will settle back down as she gets older if we continue this process and keep her socialized. Muffit gets overly excited about people and children. She loves them! But she will jump all over them if I let her. So I hold her and restrain her till she calms down, then allow her to meet and greet. Tell your family and friends not to look at Gizmo or touch him when they first arrive. They should totally stand aloof and in control by their attitude and ignore her. If she doesn't feel threatened, she will relax more. Good luck.

Smart Papitese - Cricket

by Lisa
(Iowa)

Cricket

Cricket

Our Papitese Cricket joined our family in February of 2008 as an 8 week old little fluffball. She immediately took over! She is the sweetest, smartest, and softest dog we have ever seen. She loves everyone and everyone loves her.

She is very smart! She can sit, lay, shake hands, roll over, dance, walk on her back feet, stay, and push a ball with her nose on command.

She is the perfect cuddly lap dog. She is so much fun! We can't imagine our home without her!

The Papitese is the perfect little house dog!

We had to have Cricket cross the Rainbow Bridge on August 19. She gave us almost 14 years of love and laughter. Until we see you again, sweet baby. We love you.

more Cricket information
by: Lisa - Iowa

Congratulations on your upcoming puppy! I can only imagine how cute it will be! I have never seen an ugly Maltese mix pup.

Speaking on behalf of Cricket - she has the traits of a Maltese with the only Papillon feature being her ears. She has the Maltese soft fur and she does not shed at all. My husband and son have allergies, especially my son, and she does not bother them at all.

Cricket is now 3 years old and weighs about 7 1/2 pounds. She is about one foot tall from front feet to the top of her head. She is very smart and learned tricks quickly. My daughter taught her about 5 or 6 tricks in just a few days when Cricket was still a young puppy.

We have to be careful what we say around her because she knows who grandma and grandpa are, as well as other names of family members and pets, and when she hears those names, she thinks we are going to visit them!

She learned potty pad training very well. We use the rewashable Pooch Pads that we have sitting on a washable rug and she does a pretty good job of hitting the pad. She will go outside, but not in bad weather.

Obviously, there is no way of knowing how big your puppy will get or if he or she will shed, but I don't think papillon-malteses get very big and I would assume that being half maltese, the shedding wouldn't be much, if at all.

I hope I covered everything you wanted to know (and probably more, too!) Enjoy your puppy and please make a post when you can!

Sweet Papitese - Pippin Calhoun

by Mandy
(Denham Springs, LA)

My Papitese is the most beautiful, sweet and loving little boy who me and my family have enjoyed each and every day that he has been with us. Pippin's coat is light brown and white soft fur.

His personalty is so sweet and loving that even my husband has been taken in my him. He goes with us everywhere and is very well behaved. He is our little baby... the newest addition to our family.

Pippin is 5 months old and only weighs about 3lbs. He is the most adorable little guy and makes everyone who sees him smile. We take little Pippin with us every where we go and he comfortably sits in his purse kennel or on our lap.

So far we don't have any bad habits and even if he did he is so adorable we would be blind to it. I would recommend this breed to anyone who wants a lap dog who will love you unconditionally and is easy to train.

Hello Pippin!
by: LuLu and LoLLy!

Dear Pippin -- we are 2 Maltese dogs and we love everything about this post -- your adorable picture, your super cute name, and how much your humans obviously love you! Math is not our strong suit but we are pretty sure 3 pounds is little, isn't it the number after negative 26 and before 75? Either way, we're shrimpy (as in small, not as in sea critters) too.

Love, your Maltese dog PaLs, LuLu and LoLLy! http://www.luluandlolly.com

Papitese - Willie Nelson Capone

(Watertown NY)

My Boy And His Favorite Toy!

My Boy And His Favorite Toy!

I met my Papitese Willie for the 1st time in Dec. of 2007. I was having a tough time of it in my life and my sister bought him as a gift for me! I was not real sure about owning a puppy, for it is a great responsibilty!

Now that he is in my life I could not imagine a day without him! He is the sweetest most loving creature that God put on this earth! He is one of the smartest dogs I have ever seen!

He is now almost 6 months and spoiled rotten! We are almost done potty training, when you ask will if he wants to go pp potty he will get me my shoes and drop them at my feet! Smart as a whip!

He is like a child to me and I could not have thought it possible to love my little man more!

Papitese Princess - Padme'

by Kerry
(Iowa)

Princess Padme'

Princess Padme'

Padme' is an 11 month old Papitese and weights 12 pounds. Her dad was a Maltese and her mom was a Papillon. She is the best dog ever. Loves walks & car rides. Very good watch dog also loves our kids. She is a mommy's girl!!

Our 10 year old son named her. Padme' is Darth Vader's wife in Star Wars and since she is 1/2 Papillon & 1/2 Maltese the name fits her perfect!

Special Papitese - Millie

by Bernadette
(St Paul Minnesota)

Millie/ Breed (not sure)

Millie/ Breed (not sure)

I wish I knew for sure that my little Millie Roo Roo was a Papitese. I adopted her 2yrs ago. She was found as a stray.

I would send a picture to anyone that could help me better Identify her breed. She is so unusual and adorable... very vocal, smart, obedient... and her tongue doesn't fit in her mouth very well (hangs out at times).

I think she could be a number of breeds... Poodle, ShiTzu, Papillon, Maltese,... I love her so. I don't know how old she is... so I fear that I my time with her is limited.

I would like to figure this out, so if the unfortunate day comes when she will go to "Doggie Heaven" I will know how to find another similar to her. Can anyone help?

About Millie
by: Gina

Millie sure looks like a Papitese to me. She looks a lot like my Trinket. If she has an underbite (doesn't look like she does), that would suggest Shihtzu. If her coat was coarse and frizzier, that would suggest poodle. But the hair pattern on her face looks maltese, and the markings are very papillon. How big is she?
